Common questions

What happens in allergy testing?

After assessment, your specialist may recommend skin prick testing or other investigations. Testing is planned carefully and explained so your family knows what to expect.

What is a supervised food challenge?

A supervised oral food challenge helps confirm or rule out a food allergy in a controlled clinic setting with our nursing team, usually after specialist assessment and testing.

Will we get an emergency care plan?

Where clinically appropriate, your specialist can help with personalised management and emergency action plans so your family feels confident day to day.

Can I just come in for an Oral Challenge?

To be eligible for an Oral Challenge, you need to be an existing patient having had a prior consult with one of our Allergists. We are unable to book new patients straight into an Oral Challenge without an initial consult as our allergists require their own testing to be done to see if children are eligible to undergo an Oral Challenge.

Can we do an Oral Challenge on the same day as our Initial Consult/Review?

No, we will not be able to do Oral Challenges the day of your Initial Consult/Review. We have designated clinic days where our registered nurse comes in to assist in the Oral Challenge.
